Documents To Bring

Here is a list of documentation items that you may need to prepare your tax return. Some will apply to you, some will not.

Personal Information:

  • Social Security numbers for you and your family
  • All family birthdates
  • Previous year tax return, if not prepared by XpressTaxSolutions
  • Members of the military, bring your DD214 and expenses incurred for performing duty

Income related information:

  • W-2’s provided by your employer
  • If you are self-employed, business income and applicable expenses by catergory
  • Interest statements from your bank, savings and loan or credit unions
  • Dividend statements from any investments
  • Unemployment statement (1099-G)
  • Amount of last year's state refund
  • Social Security statement (1099 G)
  • Retirement or Pension income, including all 1099’s related to distributions from 401k’s, IRA’s or other plans
  • Alimony received. (If you paid alimony you need to provide the name of the individual that you paid the alimony to and their social security number.)
  • Gambling winnings statements
  • Rental property income and expenses
  • Capital Gains or Losses on the sale of stock and investments
  • Any documents related to forgiveness of debt.(1099 A / 1099 C)
  • Any 1099’s related to education distributions, HSA or PSA plans

Deductible expense information:

  • Mortgage interest paid in the previous year (including your 2nd mortgage, if you have one!)
  • Real estate taxes
  • Closing statement if you bought, refinanced, or sold your home
  • Medical expenses, including prescription drugs, doctors, hospital, dentists, orthodontists, and optometrists
  • Health insurance premiums
  • DMV fees
  • Charitable contributions (cash and non-cash)
  • Unreimbursed employment related expenses
  • Job-related education expenses
  • Job search expenses
  • Educator expenses
  • College tuition and fees
  • Student loan interest
  • Contributions to self employed pension plans and/or self employed health insurance
  • Moving expenses
  • Dependent care expense including to whom it was paid, their address, phone and tax ID number

Other items:

  • Did you make any estimated payments? (We will need the amounts and dates of the payments)
  • Any correspondence you received from from Internal Revenue Service or the Franchise Tax Board
  • Details of any payment plans with the IRS or FTB
  • Bank information including bank name, routing number and account number for direct deposit of your refund (if applicable)
  • Did you pay any foreign taxes? (We will need the amounts and dates of the payments)
